Martin Fleit

1926-2020

Dear Colleagues, Clients, and Friends:

It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of Martin Fleit on January 26, 2020.  Lois was by his side in his final moments.

Marty had a distinguished and productive career that spanned over sixty years.  Although Marty had retired a few years ago, he practiced until he was almost 90 years old because he had a passion for his work.  Marty inspired all of us at Fleit Intellectual Property Law every day and he will be greatly missed.

We hope you will join our entire firm in keeping Lois in your thoughts.

With deepest sympathy,
Fleit Intellectual Property Law Family

Marty Fleit had a distinguished and productive career that spanned over sixty years.  He practiced until he was almost 90 years old because he had a passion for his work. Marty was internationally known in intellectual property law. He has lectured throughout the world on prosecuting and enforcing patents and trademarks. He was a member of the advisory board of the Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Journal of the Bureau of National Affairs. Marty was previously a founding partner of the Washington, D.C. law firm, Fleit Jacobson Cohn and Price, which was rated among the top 10 U.S. patent law firms in filing and prosecuting domestic patents. Marty studied at Tufts University, earned a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire, and a J.D. at Georgetown University, where he was a member of the Law Review. Marty has engaged in litigation before numerous U.S. District and Circuit Courts and is admitted before the U.S. Supreme Court. As an honor to Marty’s legacy, the firm simplified its name to “Fleit Intellectual Property Law.”
